Teaching kids how to swim can be a fairly arduous task both for you and them. It is important to always make sure they are under close supervision to prevent accidents and to allow them to enjoy the process. It is going to be easier on both yourself and the kids if they are enjoying it. I know this is easier said than done for when a child does not want to do something it takes some convincing however, there are ways to make the process more enjoyable and possibly a little easier. Two possible ways to make the transition a little easier on them is to include pool toys that interest them as well as floats.
When I say use pool floats in the process, I also mean swimming aids. You are probably familiar with the inflatable sleeves that slip over the upper arm. This will give the person wearing, in this case the child you are teaching to swim, the ability to stay afloat without know how to swim. Using these, coupled with adult supervision, could be a great way for the first time swimmer to get used to the feel of the water. Remember, like anything else part of the process is getting used to the way it feels to be in the pool. However, there are other options as well. You could use an actual float and allow them to dangle their legs off the back of it just to allow them to get used to the water.
You could also make the process a little more enjoyable by adding pool toys to the equation. Let’s face it; children are more likely to enjoy their first time swimming if you make it fun for them and what else could assist in that process better than pool toys. Having pool toys that the child enjoys will make them more likely to want to go swimming. Whether it is a pool float with their favorite cartoon character or a rubber ducky you will make swimming a much more worthwhile venture for them. Teaching your children how to swim does not have to be such strenuous task if you make it fun and easy for them. If you make swimming fun, and safe they will be looking forward to their next swimming lesson.
